Dr. Gurmohan Walia is New VC of Khalsa University

Known academician and present vice chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU), Fatehgrah Sahib, Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia was today appointed as new Vice Chancellor of Khalsa University (KU). He will join his duty in next a few days. His appointment was cleared by varsity’s Governing Body meeting held here today under the chairmanship of KU Chancellor Satyajit Singh Majithia.

Dr. Walia is an expert on language and religious issues is Ph.D in English and women rights issues, business studies, environment management and development are the key areas of his interests. He had earlier been Director, Education, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), managing 45 colleges and 75 schools.

The post of VC had fallen vacant following the request by the incumbent VC of KU Dr. Sarbjit Singh Chahal to relieve him on account of tragedies in his home recently when his wife first and now mother-in-law expired in Chandigarh. Dr. Walia basically hails from Patiala and as SGPC Director he opened 12 colleges and 12 English medium schools. . He had also been the Principal of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib from 1994 to 2009.

His research work has been published in the international journals and he has worked as he has been subject expert with the Punjab Public Service Commission. Apart from being the member of various academic bodies of the Universities, he has penned down a number of works and books in English Literature and Religious Studies. He has visited various European, Newzealand and North American Universities.

Majithia said that varsity would be benefitted by the experience and expertise of Dr. Walia and will emerge as world class professional university. Dr. Walia said his priorities will be research and establishing the new faculties for the technical, professional and skill-oriented courses at KU. The others whop attended the varsity’s governing body meeting today included KU’s pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, member Swinder Singh Kathunangal, Ajmer Singh Heir, Jatinder Singh Brar, Harminder Singh Freedom and Registrar Dr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon.

The state government had last year approved the setting up of the Khalsa University Amritsar. The Governor Punjab VP Singh Badnore is the Visitor of the university. Majithia said KU is multi-faculty varsity that has vowed to become a research-oriented seat of higher learning. The varsity has opened Ph.D, M.Phil and select other post graduate courses from the last session.

Dr.Walia said he was happy to be associated with the historic KCGC and would work to the best of his abilities to contribute to make the university one of the best in the country. He said his focus further will be setting up of the administration, research in diverse fields and chalking out job-oriented courses to produce best of the human resource in the country.
