Khalsa University, a multi-faculty institution, was established in 2016 under the aegis of "Khalsa College Charitable Society, Amritsar (KCCS)" through Punjab Government Act No. 44/2016 under UGC Act, 1956. Khalsa College Charitable Society, Amritsar the premier-most institute of higher learning, was established by the leaders of the Singh Sabha Movement in 1892. The Society drawing strength from the profound teachings of the Great Sikh Gurus and from its own illustrious past forges ahead with a visionary outlook. At present the society has a distinguished history of running as many as 21 educational institutions including the historic Khalsa College, Amritsar with an enrolment of more than 35,000 students. The University has a well constituted ‘Governing Body’, 'Board of Management’ and ‘Academic Council’ to run its affairs in a democratic way.
The mission of Khalsa University is to provide opportunities for educational, vocational, professional, social, linguistic and cultural development of the students of all abilities and backgrounds; enabling them to discover their potential and fulfil their aspirations. A special emphasis is laid to prepare students to serve the needs of stakeholders across academia, industry and various other spheres to meet the regional, national and global challenges.
The University offers education in various areas of Science, Engineering and Arts. Apart from its existing constituent colleges, a new College of Agricultural Sciences is all set to be established. The plans are also underway to open colleges in Life Sciences, and Law, in the near future. It is noteworthy that all the constituent colleges of the University are institutes of academic excellence as they have been accredited either as “A++” or "A-Grade" from the relevant regulatory bodies.
With focus on the skill development and entrepreneurship through industrial collaboration and by signing MoUs with the world class national and international universities/institutes, the University is committed to producing a quality human resources to serve the society in a substantially optimal way.
The Chancellor of the University (S. Satyajit Singh Majithia), the Pro-Chancellor (S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina) and the Vice Chancellor (Dr. Mehal Singh) are synergizing their wisdom and experience to steer the University towards achieving global standards of excellence.
